Ever wondered how you would actually go about getting into scuba diving? Well it may be easier than you first expected. First things first, before you start looking for a diving club, you have to be at least 12 to begin training, however, if you or your child is younger than the age of 12, there is of course junior diver courses and training programs at some clubs.
You should also make sure that you are psychically fit enough to begin training. Believe it or not, diving takes a lot of stamina. The World Recreational Scuba Training Council offer a questionnaire upon their website that should determine if you would be fit enough to begin training.
Once you?ve passed these first obstacles, you will need to find an appropriate facility that offers the course. Some people are lucky and have one or maybe even two in close proximity however some people do need to travel which can be expensive and inconvenient when it comes to long distances.
Once you have found a good club with heated pools and a training course, you will need to see if the fees for the course are reasonable, of course this would be hard to determine an estimated price as different clubs will vary.
With a payment for the course out of the way, you will also need to purchase the equipment (most clubs will provide some of the more expensive parts such as tanks etc.) Clubs may also provide other equipment and clothing, they should be able to tell you if that is the case when signing up for the course. Otherwise, you will need the essentials such as a wetsuit snorkel etc.
You will need to then pass the Watermanship test. This usually has certain requirements where you performance will be observed. For example you are required swim continuously for a certain length and float without aid for a required time.
You should definitely be reading up on the theory side of scuba diving as it will boost your diving knowledge massively, read books and watch DVD?s, anything that will inform you of what lies ahead in the world of scuba diving.
One last thing; practice makes perfect. Sometimes your local pool will host diving sessions and lessons to help you improve and learn new skills.
